Dr. Michael C. Shulkin grew up as a navy kid with an older sister and younger brother. As such, they were moved around the U.S depending on where the navy wanted his father to be stationed.
When his father retired from the navy, they settled in San Diego. Dr. Shulkin graduated from Kearney High School in 1975, attended UCLA and graduated with a degree in mathematics in 1979. He then attended Illinios College of Optometry and received his Doctorate in Optometry in 1983 and his license to practice Optometry in California a few months later.
He worked for several optometrists around San Diego county gaining experience for about seven years; his objective was to build a pediatric optometric practice as well as developmental optometric practice that included vision therapy (eye exercise to improve vision function).
I’ve always had the goal of opening a private practice and in 1990 he had decided to pursue that dream. He had purchased his current practice at the end of 1990 and has been here ever since.
WE PRACTICE ALL PHASES OF OPTOMETRY
We practice all phases of optometry including pediatric, contact lenses (soft, gas permeable, keratoconus, bifocal (both soft and gas permeable), toric, and most hard to fit modalities), eye disease treatment and management, pre-op and post-op surgical co-managment, dry eye disease and management, as well as general optometric eye care for all ages. (Glasses for everyday, occupational, and sports).
